Phila man admits stealing U.S. flag

New Philadelphia police were investigating the theft of firewood Sunday when officers came across more than smoke in a Tuscarawas Ave. NW residence.
They saw two newspaper articles, framed and hanging on a living room wall, reporting the late December theft and recovery of a huge U.S. flag from the Bag-n-Save food store in Dover.
The words, “Front Page,” were written in black marker along one side of the Dec. 27 article.
A couple days later, police said, Kaufman hiked from Steele Hill Rd. NW to an area about 200 feet above Rt. 250 at New Philadelphia known as “The Point.”
Using clothesline, Kaufman tied the 20- by 30-foot flag to two small trees and draped it over the cliff edge, Nelson said.

Georgia Prefers most recent design

Voters in Georgia who participated in the state’s presidential primary Tuesday overwhelmingly selected the most recent design of their state flag.
The non-binding referendum was held to put to rest a decades-old controversy over the inclusion of Confederate imagery on the state’s official banner.
The winning design was the flag that began flying over state buildings last year, with a white horizontal stripe on a red field and a blue square in the corner containing the emblem of the state seal in gold.
