Freedom Rock in Rural Iowa

In rural Iowa there is a huge rock near a gravel pit on Higway 25. For generations, kids have painted slogans, names, and obscenities on this rock, changing it’s character many times.
A few months back, the rock received its latest paint job, and since then it has been left completely undisturbed. It’s quite an impressive sight.

Lawmakers Warned of Firm Reselling Flags

Eva Malecki, spokeswoman for the Architect of the Capitol, said the office suspects that consumers who use the Internet to find out how to purchase flags flown over the U.S. Capitol run into a commercial reseller before discovering that they can order the flag from their representative or senator for a fraction of the cost.

On the shield part of my (entirely bogus) coat-of-arms you see the components of the flag of Northern Ireland. Of course the only official flag of Northern Ireland is the Union Flag, but this flag is the one used by the Northern Ireland football team and was official from 1953 to 1973. It was a banner of arms used by the Northern Ireland government from 1925, the star then was an acute 6 pointed star and that’s why this version has such a star, also the crown is the Imperial Crown - not some fruity thing Queen Victoria wore to her son’s wedding…

Signs in New Hampshire

Lorianne from Keene, New Hampshire gives a great “on-the-spot” report of the primary “circus”. While walking her dog she got a picture of Sign holders with all the “American Juxtaposions”: yellow ribbons, American flags, POW flags, and state flags.
Kathleen at Unsettled has a great picture of the sign-waving campaign supporters who took over the Keene town square this past weekend.
